Narci Rodriguez is a fearless and dynamic artist who has carved out a unique space in the music world. With an eclectic range of influences spanning from the classical sophistication of Debussy to the genre-defying sounds of Hiatus Kaiyote, Narci's music is a blend of artistry and authenticity. His journey is marked by bold creative choices, a disregard for conventional trends, and a steadfast commitment to originality. Joined by his trusted bandmates, Ilmarto and Zalo Rodríguez, Narci creates music that challenges the norm and captivates audiences. In this interview, Narci opens up about his inspirations, career milestones, and the values that drive his passion for music.
Gina: Narci, thank you so much for joining me! Let’s dive in. Who are your band members, and how did you all come together to form this incredible group?
Narci: Thank you, Gina! My bandmates are Ilmarto on drums and Zalo Rodríguez on keyboards. They’re more than just bandmates to me—they’re true friends and family. We met through various musical projects. Ilmarto and I first crossed paths as sidemen in a hip-hop band, and Zalo joined us after our first rehearsal. He came highly recommended by his brother, who was actually the guitarist in that same hip-hop group.
Gina: What have listeners said about your music that makes you feel it stands out from the rest?
Narci: People often tell us that our sound is unique. We always strive to offer something fresh and original. We take risks and don’t let public opinion dictate our creative choices.
Gina: That’s so inspiring! Now, who is your favorite independent artist, and what draws you to them?
Narci: Honestly, I don’t have a specific favorite. There’s so much incredible talent out there; I just enjoy soaking it all in.
Gina: What about your musical influences—who has shaped your sound and style over the years?
Narci: My influences are quite eclectic. They range from the classical elegance of Debussy to the experimental vibes of Hiatus Kaiyote, with a touch of Caetano Veloso’s brilliance.
Gina: Preparing for a performance can be daunting. How do you mentally gear up for the opinions of the audience, whether they’re positive or negative?
Narci: I’m in my forties now, and to be honest, I just don’t care about public opinion anymore. I focus on doing my best and staying true to my music.
Gina: That’s such a healthy perspective. What advice would you give to musicians who are just starting out in this ever-changing industry?
Narci: Don’t chase money—let it come naturally. Focus on creating music because you love it, not because you’re trying to fit into some mold.
Gina: Speaking of creating, what is your primary instrument, and how many others do you play?
Narci: I’m definitely a singer at heart, but I dabble in bass, piano, and guitar—though I’d say I’m a convincing liar on those instruments!
Gina: (Laughs) I love that honesty! How many singles or albums do you have out right now?
Narci: I’ve released six albums as a leader. As a sideman, I’ve honestly lost count.
Gina: Tell me about your latest album or song—what inspired it? Is it available for listeners yet?
Narci: My latest album is called The Glitch: Suite for The Sad Young Men. It delves into themes of frustration, social critique, and the search for individual freedom in a world that often feels oppressive and superficial. Each song is like a vignette, capturing different characters or situations. It’ll be available on my website—once I finally update it!
Gina: I’ll be looking forward to it! Do you have any upcoming performances we can look out for?
Narci: Absolutely! I’ll be performing with the legendary dAtrio on the 5th and 6th. It’s going to be an amazing experience.
Gina: I have no doubt about that! What parting advice would you like to share with aspiring artists?
Narci: Be honest and true to yourself. Focus on originality, avoid copying trends, and for the love of music, don’t turn into just a content creator.
Gina: Narci, thank you so much for taking the time to share your story and wisdom with me. I am so proud of all that you’ve accomplished and wish you and your bandmates the very best. I pray that God blesses the works of your hands, in alignment with His will for your life and your music.
Narci: Thank you, Gina.
Gina: You’re welcome, Narci. Until next time, take care!
Narci: You too. Bye!

"John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him."
"Romans 10:9-13 9 [f]that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10for with the heart a person believes, [g]resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, [h]resulting in salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE [i]PUT TO SHAME.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; 13for “EVERYONE WHO CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.”
